Conceptual artist Dennis Ryan — phobia art
The phobia art series, as the name suggests, deals with the concept of phobias and how they can disable a person to a lesser quality of life. This series of paintings was created to directly facilitate concepts and stories Dennis has heard from phobic, mental disorder suffers. Aesthetics and broad audience appeal were not top priorities for this fine art series.
In this series the artist consciously uses broad areas of aggressive, contrasting color to suggest aggravation to the viewer. Angles are prevalent throughout the series to suggest the dynamic, stark observations of the phobic mind.
This collection of paintings was done exclusively on wood panels, so the surface could be cut into and abused more than would be possible with traditional canvas.
